Children were drawn into the vibrant story of The Wind in the Willows when a musical theatre company paid a visit.
Pupils at St Margaret’s Preparatory School, Calne, took part in workshops with Image Musical Theatre to learn songs and movements that they then performed during the morning show, alongside the professional actors.
Some children were also chosen to play bigger roles and took on parts including a policeman, a horse and riverbank animals. A spokesman for Image Musical Theatre said: ‘Kenneth Grahame's tales of the River Bank, the Open Road and The Wild Wood are all here in this vibrant musical production.
We followed the lives of the loyal friends Mole, Ratty and Badger in their attempts to help the exuberant Mr Toad become a better creature. Only when Toad is threatened with the loss of Toad Hall does he realise the importance of their friendship. The show requires the participation of the whole audience as the chorus and ten children who play small parts throughout the show.’
Headmistress, Mrs Karen Cordon said ‘Image Musical Theatre is the only children's theatre company that allows the whole audience to rehearse and take part in the show – it gives every child the opportunity to perform. Last year the company presented The Jungle Book and we have already booked them for next year, when they will perform The Selfish Giant.’
