Teachers Raise Money for Charity

Two teachers crossed the finish line together when they took part in the Bath Half Marathon to raise money for charity.

PE teacher Sophie White, 33, and Year 1 class teacher Sophie Hansford, who both work at St Margaret's Preparatory School, Calne, completed the 13.1 mile course in 2 hours 15 minutes.

Mrs White raised £700 for Wiltshire Sight, which is the school's charity of the year, and Mrs Hansford raised £1,300 for the Starmer-Smith Fund set up by TV commentator Nigel Starmer-Smith.

Wiltshire Sight has been chosen by St Margaret’s as its cause for 2017 and Mrs White was backed by both staff and parents for her 13.1-mile challenge.

She said: “It is fantastic to be supporting a local independent charity that give so much back to the community. Wiltshire Sight do not charge for any of their services and receive no statutory funding so it is so important to fund raise so they are able to continue to support the growing number of people with sight loss in Wiltshire.”
