A PE teacher at St Margaret’s Prep School in Calne has put on her running shoes to get fit after having her second child and to raise cash for her school’s charity of the year.
Sophie White, 33, hopes to complete the Bath Half Marathon on March 12 in under two hours and raise at least £500 for Devizes based charity Wiltshire Sight. The charity has been chosen by St Margaret’s as its cause for 2017 and she is hoping for support from both staff and parents for her 13.1 mile challenge.
Back in 2010, before the birth of her children Henry, four and Tabitha, 14 months, Mrs White completed the same race, but this year is using the run as part of her training for the London Marathon the following month. She is part of a small female-only club called ‘Run in Malmesbury’ and covers about 25 miles a week. She said: 'The training is going well and I am enjoying exploring my local area. The evening runs are the toughest after a long day at work, getting my kit on and trekking out into the night with my head torch on can sometimes be difficult to get motivated. But it is fantastic to be supporting a local independent charity that give so much back to the community. Wiltshire Sight do not charge for any of their services and receive no statutory funding so it is so important to fund raise so they are able to continue to support the growing number of people with sight loss in Wiltshire.’
